How a ceramic PTC element works
PTC stands for positive temperature coefficient. As the ceramic plate heats up, its electrical resistance rises, which automatically reduces the current it draws. The element settles at a safe working temperature instead of climbing indefinitely.

Why ceramic PTC heats faster
A PTC ceramic element is a block of ceramic that conducts electricity and heats up, then automatically limits its own current as it reaches temperature. There is no glowing wire, nothing to burn dust onto, and no risk of the element running away.
Because the ceramic has a large surface area, a small fan can pull a lot of warm air off it quickly. That is why you feel warm air at the grille within about a minute and a noticeably warmer 12 m² room in three to five.
What ceramic heating costs to run
Ceramic is not more efficient than any other electric heat — nothing is, they are all essentially 100%. What it does is reach a comfortable temperature sooner, so the thermostat starts cycling the element off sooner.
